Governor Appoints ABAC Police Chief To Council

TIFTON—Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue has appointed Bryan Golden, Chief of Police at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, to the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Council.

A member of the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police and the Georgia Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators, Golden earned a bachelor of arts degree from North Georgia College, a master of public administration degree from Columbus State University (CSU) and is a graduate of CSU’s Georgia Law Enforcement Command College.

“I was very pleasantly surprised,” Golden said.  “I didn’t see this coming but I am very honored at the appointment.  I sat on POST Council for a year through a law enforcement organization I am a member of and I enjoyed that time at POST very much.

“The staff of POST Council are some of the most dedicated and professional people I have ever worked with. It will be very satisfying working with that caliber of people again.”

Golden said the Council oversees certification for all law enforcement corrections personnel in the state.  The group also oversees certification and the curriculum for all the police academies in Georgia.  ABAC provides space for the Georgia Public Safety Training Center Regional Police Academy on its campus.

Golden assumed his present position in May, 1992.  Prior to that, he was employed by the Tift County and Worth County Sheriff’s Offices.

Golden and his wife, Cathy, have two children.
